Icons for an organized designer

Icons design

Individual work

The icons are an authentic art because they simplify a lot of words into a drawing.

The UX/UI designer’s job includes working with different design methodologies (like, Design Sprint, Design Thinking, Lean or Agile). However, despite the existence of different organizing methods, such as Gantt chart, there are not enough ways to communicate properly with the work team; therefore, we have to solve the following wicked problem:

With the main goal to have the best team communication, we need to organize properly the elements in which we are working.

I dediced to solve this problem in a different way by creating new icons, which we are going to nickname I4OD. As a way to learn about icons and how to make them.

Icons are amazing! They are used to communicate in a simple and graphic way. They work like the emojis that we use in lots of social networks to communicate feelings and emotions!

How can we design icons?

I have learned to do it and here I leave you some tips that I have taken from Material Design.

The icons have to be clear and simple.

The icons must be bold: we want that the icons stand out.

All the icons have to have the same style.

The icon must be 20px length and 20px width.

Then, we must add a border of 2px length and width.

The final size must be 24px length and 24px width.

The I4OD can be combined with each other. Also, they can complement really well with the Atomic Design. By this way, we can indicate as we complete each phase (Atoms, Molecules, Organisms, Templates & Pages).

icons & their meaning

Applications: we can use this icon to mark finished work or parts of it.

Design: the design of this icon is similar to the check emoji of communication apps like Whatsapp.

Applications: we can use it to indicate the work that has not been done yet and to indicate the wrong elements that we must discuss with the team.

Design: the design of this icon, as I did with the Done’s icon, is based on the cross emoji.

Applications:it can be used to team communicate the reviewed work which cannot be marked yet with the DONE’s icon.

Design: The design of this icon is based on a pencil because we used to use this object to do basic sketches and modify them.

Applications: it can be used for the work’s information that we want to include at the final presentation and also, it can be used for indicate ideas we want to consider for future projects.

Design: its design is similar to the play button that appears on many media (such as videos or music).

Applications: it can be used to indicate the information we have to search and increase and to indicate which information can be searched by the user while using the final product.

Design: it is inspired by magnifying glasses which are used by private investigator, such as Sherlock Holmes.

Applications: it is useful to select information that we are going to test when we end the product. This testing helps us to check if the product is accessible to the public.

Design: its design is similar to the question mark.

Applications: it is necessary in many occasions to mark important elements. Also, it is useful to mark elements that need to be solved before any other.

Design: this icon is inspired by emergency icon that wants to highlight specific information️.

Applications: it is necessary to have a good, organized and appropriate team communication. That is why this icon can help to indicate the information which has to be discussed.

Design: it is based on speech bubbles which want to represent a conversation between people.

Applications: Social media are gaining more and more strength as a digital marketing strategy. Which is why this icon will be really useful to mark the information that we want to include in the company’s social media.

In addition, we will help to improve the company, while working hand in hand with the marketing team.

Design:it is inspired by interhuman interactions. In the end, we are all connected by this media.

Without a doubt, it was a job that I enjoyed a lot, both during the research phase and in the design of each icon.
